The activities of some of the prominent educational institutions are given below:
1. St. Thomas English School, Kalyan
It is a full fledged secondary English medium school with all essential infrastructure such class rooms, staff rooms, auditorium, library, reading room, separate laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology and an air conditioned computer lab. The school has classes right from nursery to standard X and is considered to be one of the best within Kalyan municipal limits. The school has been achieving 100% result with many distinctions and first classes in SSC and it comes at top of the list of Kalyan schools. As one today there are 1600 students & 49 staff (teaching and non teaching) on the roll. Rev .Fr Peter Prisquilla is the Principal of the institution and he has taken special care in workshops, seminars, student counselling etc.
2. St Mary's Multipurpose High School and Junior college, Vashi
This has been the very first venture of MOCCB in the field of education, having started in the year 1986 with a very modest set up. Today, it is a landmark in the history of diocese with approximately 6512 children along with 325 students of St.Mary's Tejaswani School and a staff with strength of approximately 200. The school has been continuously maintaining its 100% pass results over the years and it is considered as one of the best educational institution in Navi Mumbai. Out of 296 students who appeared for std. X board examinations –there were 192 distinctions, 101 first class &3 second class. 36 students scored above 90%. The overall percentage was 100 The Junior college too have been functioning exceedingly well , maintaining its 100% pass since beginning. X seed, an educational service, offering an integrated curriculum and training programme was introduced this year. This curriculum complements the CCE pattern and covers subjects like English, mathematics and science from nursery to Std .V.
3. St. Mary's ICSE School , Koperkhairane
It was a brave new step to start an ICSE school in 2001 although with just 150 students. Today it is one of the most sought after institution by the public of Navi Mumbai and has 1500 plus students in its roll. It is a well equipped school with all facilities for audio- visual education, computer education, game, physical training, sports etc. besides developing a strong academic base. The school has been achieving 100% result in ICSE exams. 4. St Mary's JNPT School, Neva Shiva
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust handed over a school building and this school was started with 600 students in 2003. The results of all those who appeared for SSC examinations brought fame and name for the institution. This year also the school has achieved 100% result in SSC examination. At present there are 882 students in the school. Every school also is provided with the audio visual teaching (Decamp) facility.We expect to expand the size & texture of this school once JNPT hands over the new school building now under construction.
5. St Mary's School, Valsad
This is an institution in its growing stage. The school building was partially constructed in 4 acres of land purchased and another 4 acres donated by a few members of the diocese. About 582 students are studying here with approx 30 teaching and non teaching staff.
6. Dr Mar Theophilus School (ICSE Pattern),Dhanori
As a fore- runner of our Pune project, we had hired a small place at Dhanori, where dr. Theophilus school was inaugurated by H.G. Geevarghese Mar Coorilos Metropolitan on 18th July 2007 with 18 students and 3 teachers. The school has now been shifted to the new building of 75000 Sq. Ft. With ultra modern infrastructure facilities was blessed and inaugurated on 4th Feb 2011 by H.H. Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, the Catholicose Of the East and Malankara Metropolitan. In few years, a student strength of around 900 with about 25 teachers is expected.
The school is adding modern teaching methods and E-learning classes. The school is equally careful in providing extracurricular training for our students especially. In games and sports. We are proud to inform that our students, though they are only 10/11 years old have participated in many sports items under 12 age group and have won District , State and National level in martial arts, football, tennis, rope skipping, Karate and Sqay. Our students were selected to participate at international level in Bangladesh.
7. St Mary's Tejaswani School, Vashi
It is purely a social project of MOCCB, providing totally free education to the children of Turbhe slum. Alongwith the education, students are provided with free transportation, books, uniform, shoes, school bags, snacks with milk and Bournvita. More than 325 students (most of them who are otherwise denied the opportunity of education are availing these facilities). At present this is up to 9th standard. The last year saw a student of this school appearing for SSC examination as a private candidate & passing it with 1st class securing 69% marks and joining 11th standard commerce in regular junior college. In a similar case a handicapped (blind) ex – student from this school appeared for SSC in 2011- 2012 and passed with good marks. Few others are also following the suit. The charitable activity is well appreciated by public in general. Staff strength is 11 full time teachers with 4 part time teachers who have volunteered to teach English, mathematics, science and social studies in standards V to IX. The school has been renamed as 'St. Mary's Tejaswani School' and the revised timing for classes up to 9th std is 2.15 pm to 7.15 pm.
8. General
The modern method of teaching/learning by through educomp is in place in all our schools and Jr. College at Vashi, Koperkhairane, JNPT & Kalyan. All the classrooms are fitted with the facility and more classrooms are covered in each year, depending on the need.
• The CAMPUS CARE- school automation software has been procured, presently extending its service to Vashi, Koperkhairane and Kalyan schools. This has a facility for student/staff administration, timetable generation, exam and result analysis, financial accounting, SMS/E-mail. The system has already come into operation and the staff has been trained and it is getting stabilized.
